Lots of self-teaching novice designers will get mesmerized by advanced graphic design techniques/projects/software and completely skip over basic graphic design fundamentals.

Skipping over the fundamentals can be detrimental in the long run. You don't want to be attempting to create insane animations, breaking the grid, and alike WHILE making rookie mistakes (no button padding? alignment all over the place? poor color pairing?). Not a good look.

Accept that you are at level 1 or 2 or 3 and work through the levels in order. Everything will make so much more sense when done in this fashion.
