Are all websites starting to look like clones of each other? Is it that even a bad thing? In today's video, I address these pressing questions.

In my opinion, at the end of the day, businesses and users want websites that get the job done. Websites that help them achieve their goals, whether that is finding and purhasing a product or finding and reading some information. We call this "functional".

Users have gotten used to the standard website layout and they get thrown off easily when we deviate away. If you're a business, you are most definitely not going to risk losing a potential customer just to have a few fancy interactions and edgy composition.

Familiarity and predictability are the keywords here. However, like any other field, web design must continue to evolve and I believe it is evolving, largely thanks to the creative gems that are the websites you may find in places like awwwards.com. They push the limits and in doing that, cool new design gems pop up that CAN be used as part of a standard website design. This is how mainstream web design evolves.
