Introduction
By making a bootable linux usb, you can get access to a complete operating system. This comes in handy during troubleshooting, when your main operating system is out of order. In a nutshell, this simplifies things greatly and you can reboot in no time.
In this tutorial we will guide you on how to boot from a USB Flash drive. For this tutorial, you will have to make an ISO file containing the linux setup. You can use Magic ISO for creating an ISO image of the operating system.
Step 1 -- Downloading the application
To boot from usb, first of all you will need to download a third party application. For this purpose, log on to pendrivelinux.com and download the "Universal USB Installer" application. This application will allow you to carry a portable linux desktop with you wherever you go. This application makes your usb bootable, and all you will need to do is plug-in the usb and the operating system will start.
Step 2 -- Using the Universal USB Installer Application
Once downloaded, double click on its icon to open up the Universal USB Installer and click on the "I Agree" button to proceed.
Now select the Linux operating system from the drop down list and click on the browse button. With that done, a new window will open up. Over here, browse and locate the ISO file on your hard drive and click on the open button.
Now choose the USB Drive and click on the "Create" button.
Once the processing is completed, you will have a bootable Linux USB.
