Introduction:
Learning how to set default search engine in ie can be a useful skill if you don't want to use the default Bing search engine. This tutorial will show you how to change the default search.
Step # 1 -- Accessing the Internet Explorer Gallery
Start Internet Explorer. The search bar in the top right corner will read "Bing" as the default. Click the arrow to the right of the search box. From the drop down menu that appears click the "Find more providers..." option. This will take you to the Internet Explorer Gallery where we will be able to download a new default search provider.
Step # 2 -- Locating and Download the Google Search Option
Once the Internet Explorer Gallery has loaded, scroll down the webpage and located the Google Search download, click it. This will take you to the download page, click the large "Add to Internet Explorer" button. A window will appear asking you to confirm the addition, click "Add".
Step # 3 -- Changing the Provider
Now that we have added the search engine, we still need to look at how to set default search engine in ie so we can change the provider to Google. Click on the arrow to the right of the search box and click on the "Manage Search Providers" option. In the frame on the right in the new window, click on the "Google" option, then click on the "Set as default" button which appears at the bottom. Finally click "close".
Step # 4 -- Testing the Default Search Change
The search box should now read "Google" and to test it out type any search term into the box and press "return". Now Internet Explorer should be using Google as the default search engine.
