In this video, we’ll be showing you how to record your screen on Windows 10.

Screen recording is a way to capture everything on your screen in video format to watch or share later. Without the right tools, screen recording can be a pain, but we’ll show you how to do it! Let’s set up screen recording.

1. The best recording software I’ve seen is OBS [Open Broadcaster Software]. It’s free, open-source, and widely used. It’s also the same software I use to record all my HowTech videos!
2. Go to https://obsproject.com/download. Download the installer, Save the file, and then Run the file when the download is completed.
3. After going through the installation steps, open OBS. OBS has many features, but we’ll go through the bare minimum to get to recording.
4. Click Settings in the bottom right.
5. Click Output and try to match your settings with mine if they aren’t the same. You can ignore the Streaming section and focus on only the Recording area.
6. Click Browse here and choose the folder where you want the videos to go after you’ve finished recording them.
7. Move to Audio on the left. If you have a microphone, make sure to choose it in one of the mic slots.
8. Move down to Video. Change your resolution or frame rate if needed.
9. Move down to Hotkeys. Here you can set hotkeys for Starting and Stopping the recording. I’ve chosen F9 and F10, but choose what’s comfortable for you.
10. When done, hit OK at the bottom. We’re almost done, we just need to set up a Scene now.
11. A Scene is a container of Sources. And sources are things like images, your screen, and text. We’ll keep it simple this time and use one Scene with only one Source: our screen.
12. Click the Plus button under Scenes, give it any name and hit OK.
13. Click the Plus button under Sources and choose Display Capture.
14. If you followed the steps correctly, you should see a preview of your screen. It looks like “screen inception” because we’re recording the preview, but it will look like a proper video otherwise.
15. Let’s test it out. Click Start Recording or use your hotkey.
16. Use your microphone and any desktop audio as well and then click Stop Recording or the hotkey.
17. Go to the folder you chose earlier and open the video to test it out. Make sure the audio works and the recording is smooth.

You can now record your screen and share it with others!
