Double block and bleed (DBB) is the practice of shutting in a section of pipe on both sides of a valve when you are performing maintenance or repair.

Close the isolation ball valves on both the upstream and downstream sides of the valve you’re working on. Then use one of three ways to bleed any remaining pressure upstream and downstream of the valve.
-Isolation Ball Valves
-Needle Valves
