Let’s go
1⃣Pointer Method
2⃣Scanning
3⃣Chunking
4⃣RSVP
Not just speed, but retaining info
1⃣ The Pointer Method: Developed in the 1950s, this method uses "meta-guiding" or hand pacing to help you read 2,700 words per minute. It takes a lot of practice but is a tactile approach that trains your eyes to move faster by pacing with your hand.
2⃣ Scanning: Not the same as skimming, this method trains your brain to identify key components of text through sifting line-by-line and noticing numbers, names, trigger words, and key concepts.
3⃣ Chunking: An advanced approach, chunking requires you to divide the text into blocks, rather than reading line by line. This method works well with CMA textbooks already divided into paragraphs.
4⃣ Rapid Serial Visual Presentation (RSVP): This approach optimizes peripheral reading and can be achieved through digital tools such as Spritz and Velocity. Minimizing eye movement, this method can cut down your reading time significantly.
Remember, speed reading isn't about speed, it's about maximizing retention. By carefully practicing these techniques, you'll be able to blitz through the material and retain the information.
