A study with 394 women who were struggling to conceive found that nearly 24% had a condition called hypothyroidism, where the thyroid gland doesn't work as well as it should. This can affect fertility. Good news: Treatment with a medication called thyroxine helped about 77% of these women get pregnant within a year. This highlights the importance of checking thyroid levels early in fertility assessments. Simple blood tests for Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) and prolactin should be part of the initial fertility check-up to avoid unnecessary, costly procedures.
