Patella anatomy video with diagram - Hello, everyone. In this anatomy lesson, I'm going to cover the anatomy of the patella bone, better known as the kneecap.

This bone is part of the appendicular skeleton, and anatomists classify this bone as a sesamoid bone.

In this video, I'll be looking at the main characteristics of the patella bone, and I'll examine both the anterior (front) view, as well as the posterior (back) view.

The key structures you'll need to know for most undergraduate anatomy courses include the following:

Anterior side:

-Base
-Apex
-Medial border
-Lateral border

Posterior side:

-Surface for patellar ligament
-Lateral facet for lateral condyle of the femur
-Medial facet for medial condyle of the femur
