Have you heard of newborn babies being able to walk straight out of the womb? Well, it's true...kinda!

Newborns/infants are born with certain reflexes, one of which is known as the step reflex. This reflex causes the baby to actually begin taking small steps as you support the child.

Don't get me wrong...the newborn can't actually walk and support its weight. But if you hold the newborn and allow its feet to dangle and touch a sturdy surface, it will make a stepping motion with its legs.

This reflex usually disappears around the 3 month mark (give or take a couple of months), and taking steps will eventually become a voluntary gross motor skill rather than an involuntary reflex.
