IV insertion tip: don't anchor veins using the C-hold technique, as most newer guidelines suggest to avoid this method due to increased risk of needle stick injury.

Instead, anchor the vein by positioning the thumb around 1-2 inches distal to the insertion site, and use the other fingers to stabilize the patient's arm or hand.

This secures the vein in place while minimizing the risk of a needle stick injury.
