NEVER let a nurse stick a red thermometer in your mouth, lol.

Red thermometers are often used for rectal temperatures. They usually have the exact same functionality as any other thermometer, but the red color helps facilities keep it separate from thermometers for the purpose of taking rectal temperature measurements.

Don't worry though, this was one was brand new and never used. It was just the most convenient one I could find when I made this video.
