This lesson continues on the topic of estimating induced stresses using the Boussinesq elastic method. Equations and/or isobar solutions are provided for induced stresses from circular loads, square loads, rectangular loads, and ramp (or embankment) loads. Examples are shown with the Boussinesq rectangles to demonstrate how superposition can be used to estimate the stresses beneath some pretty complex area loads.
Learning Objectives:
1) Compute the vertical increase in stress beneath a circular load, a square load, a rectangular load, and/or a ramp load.
2) Use the Boussinesq rectangles approach to estimate the stress beneath a complicated load geometry.
