This lesson introduces the topic of computing point and line loads using elastic methods (Boussinesq). The assumptions involved in this approach are discussed, and examples are provided for computing these types of induced stresses.

Learning Objectives:
1) Explain the assumptions involved with elastic methods of predicting induced stresses
2) Compute induced stresses (x, y, and/or z) from a point load, line load, or strip load using Boussinesq methods
3) Properly use an isobar chart to compute induced stresses beneath a strip load
