Gender biases influence communications and cause communication barriers. Research has shown that, generally, men and women behave differently and that they converse for different reasons. Men tend to talk to emphasize status. Women tend to talk to create connections and develop relationships.
As a result of gender diversity, men tend to complain that women talk about their problems, and women criticize men for not listening. When men hear a problem, they tend to want to provide a solution. However, at times when women mention their feelings, it tends to be to promote closeness; they generally are not looking for advice.
So men may want to just listen and give reflecting responses, rather than focusing on solving problems. Men may also talk more about their feelings and personal lives to improve human relations. Women tend to want more personal face-to-face communications to develop close relationships.
