LESSON NOTES
=============
This technique can motivate you to stick with an ongoing task, create a new habit, or work towards a big goal.
It’s simple and needs no technology (although yes, you can get an app). All you do is mark an X on a calendar for every day that you do the thing you want to do. The rule is: ‘don’t break the chain.’
It works because it creates a habit by motivating you to want to write your
X. It’s motivating because of:
- the visual dominance of the X
- the tactile pleasure of writing it.
Process for your own chain of success
1. Decide on your goal (or goals – not too many)
2. Decide how much work to put in each day – and maybe the time of day you’ll do it
3. Put up a calendar in a prominent place
4. Each day you complete your task, draw a big red X across that day on your calendar
5. Don’t break the chain.
What if you have to miss a day, for holidays or sickness, for perhaps?
You don’t want to break the chain, but it’s not your fault. Allow yourself a blue X, or a tick
RECOMMENDED EXERCISE
======================
1. Test out the Chain method for yourself. Does it work for you? Use it for a week. (10 MC CPD Points)
2. Decide if it works for you and how to adapt it. (2 MC CPD Points)
