CBT Nuggets trainer John McGovern covers the Linux boot process step by step. No matter the operating system, booting up from a powered-off state begins with either BIOS or UEFI. But after that, Linux's boot-up sequence is unique.
The Linux boot-up process starts with BIOS or UEFI, which hands the process off to the Master Boot Record (MBR). MBR points to GRUB, which launches, mounts and executes the initial ramdisk (initrd). Basically everything about initrd can be complicated, and John explains it in detail, but ultimately, initrd launches the kernel that leads to running the system. All of that is simply the overview: watch to learn the details of each step in a Linux boot process.
