Google Sheets automatically saves your work. Any time a change is made to your spreadsheet, it is automatically recorded in Version History in Google Sheets. This way you can easily review and restore previous versions of your Google spreadsheet. You can even create named versions in Google Sheets which makes it easier to keep track of different stages in a document's lifecycle.

In addition to viewing the version history of the entire Google Sheet, you can also view the edit history of a single cell. This way you can see what's changed in the cell, when and by whom. This is especially helpful when many collaborators are working on the same Google spreadsheet. However, be aware that some changes may not show up in Edit History. You can find examples in the Docs Editors Help.
