Basket strainers! what is a basket strainer!

A basket strainer is given that name because it is like a basket in shape and it is a strainer in the same time due to the perforations made in it.

Basket strainers are used in district cooling plants and usually installed on the return chilled water line in the plant. Any solid particles that is moving in the chilled water 'that may result from the corrosion on the internal surface of the steel pipes' will be trapped in the strainer, and will be removed later during maintenance cleaning of the strainer.
