testing the RTDs is very easy job that should be done on quarterly basis because it is a critical element in most of the applications it is used for, especially when used for measuring the cooling load consumption.
Most RTDs are made of platinum material which has a linear temperature Vs resistance relationship.
To test your RTD, first of all you need to know its type. Is it PT 100, PT 500 or PT 1000. A PT 100 means that the sensor output resistance is 100 ohms at zero degrees Celsius. After that you should test the resistance between its connections at a given temperature and compare it with the value in the resistance table.
If your RTD has more than two wires connection points. make sure you are testing the resistance between two points having different colors. because the points of same colors are shorted and therefore will give you a zero ohms reading.
