Today we'll tackle a question I get a lot: "Can the iPhone 12 Pro Max get wet?" Well, let's find out.

First things first, we need to get inside the device. I've already removed the two screws at the bottom of the device and lifted the screen with a plastic pick. It's an essential first step to seeing what's really going on inside.

Once we've got the device open, we have to take every precaution to avoid any further damage. This means disconnecting the battery connector. This is a crucial step - it helps us prevent short circuits on the motherboard, which could lead to even more problems down the line.

After this, we proceed to disconnect all connectors. This allows us to remove the motherboard and examine it closely. We also remove the SIM tray, freeing up the reader in the process.

Now comes the fun part. We get to examine the motherboard under a microscope. This step is really where we can identify if there has been any water damage, looking for signs of corrosion or other damage.

Interestingly, in the area we're inspecting, we found a significant amount of corrosion. Rather than trying to clean the entire motherboard, which could potentially damage other components, I choose to sanitize the area.

We do this using a piece of cotton and a contact cleaner, carefully going over the area and removing any corrosion. To get a better view, we also remove a protective foam. If any component seems to be damaged, we also clear all the resin around it.

After we've ensured that all signs of rust and corrosion are removed from the board, we proceed to check the device again. This is the point where we can finally answer the question, "what to do if my phone has fallen into water?"

We reassemble the device, connecting the motherboard back to the chassis, and then plug in the charger. And voila! The phone turns on perfectly, proving that even a water-damaged phone can be brought back to life with careful and precise care.

For those of you with phones that have a non-removable battery and you're facing this problem, take it to a Technical Service. They can disconnect the battery connector and prevent further damage to the motherboard.
