Today, I am sharing my experience with you about repairing an Oppo smartphone, which unfortunately was damaged by water.

As soon as I received this water-damaged Oppo phone, I immediately disconnected the battery connector to prevent further deterioration. I was relieved to find the warranty sticker intact, which assured me that there had been no prior interference with the device's internals. However, as I proceeded, I discovered two moisture labels that had turned from white to pink, signalling that moisture had penetrated and made contact with the motherboard.

Taking utmost care, I started the disassembly process by removing all the connectors and finally the motherboard from the phone. On a detailed visual inspection of the motherboard, I spotted a small moisture stain and some visible signs of corrosion on a connector. As a repair technician, I find such problems as opportunities to employ my expertise and problem-solving skills.

To tackle this, I carefully cleaned the affected areas with a piece of cotton soaked in a contact cleaner, a combination of isopropyl alcohol and a special oil that safeguards the metal parts against corrosion. After applying some elbow grease and restoring the shine to the pins with a precision file, I turned my attention to another connector that was also showing signs of sulfate.

Working meticulously, I applied a bit of flux and tin paste, and with a steady hand and a soldering iron at 350ºC, I managed to solder the damaged pins. If you are worried about joined tracks, there's a simple fix – use a piece of desoldering mesh and voila, the issue is resolved!

Next, I injected current into the board using a specially designed laboratory power supply for mobile devices. As I observed the motherboard starting up correctly, I felt a sigh of relief. But the real test was to see if the device could go into power-saving mode. This step is crucial as it allows us to detect any abnormal consumption on the motherboard.

After some anticipation, the device entered power-saving mode. Although the consumption was a little higher than a completely healthy device due to prior water damage, it was within acceptable limits. The only lingering doubt was about the functionality of the screen, which, as I found out, was displaying stripes on the image.

Though the cleaning had been successful and the device was functional, a new screen was necessary to fully resolve the problem. In such cases, I only charge my clients for the price of the new screen and do not add any extra cost for the cleaning procedure.

I am Leonardo, and I hope this detailed narration of my experience in repairing a water-damaged Oppo smartphone helps you understand the intricacies of this work. Until the next time we meet, take care!
