"The Galician-Portuguese term designates the Romance language spoken during the Middle Ages in the regions of Portugal and Galicia and the current linguistic system that occupies the entire western range of the Iberian Peninsula, including the various dialects of the Portuguese and Portuguese languages. Galician, as well as the varieties typical of Asturias, Bierzo, Portelas, Xálima, Terras de Alcántara, Olivença, and Barrancos. In addition to these territories, the villages of Rio de Onor and Guadramil can also be included in this range, having been up to the mid-20th century of Leonese speech.

The Galician-Portuguese language is the ancestral language common to the Galician-Portuguese languages. It stood out for its use as a language of the troubadour poetry not only in the kingdoms where it was native (Portugal, Galicia, and Lion) but also in Castile and, occasionally, in other places in Europe."
