Audio recordings of the pronunciation that prevailed, with minor regional differences, among educated Brazilian Portuguese speakers from around the late 18th century until the middle of the 20th century, by when it had strongly diverged into various regional accents among all social strata. There is no specific name for that register yet, but one could call it "Imperial Brazilian Portuguese" since it spanned the entire period of the Brazilian Empire (1822-1889), and it was arguably the way that Brazilian emperors Dom Pedro I and Dom Pedro II pronounced the Portuguese language. It is featured abundantly in the earliest Brazilian recordings and still contemporarily some elder speakers, such as Olavo de Carvalho, Max Gehringer, and the late politician Enéas Carneiro, retain some characteristics of that register in their speech.
If you are interested to see your native language/dialect to be featured here. Submit your recordings to [email protected]. Looking forward to hearing from you!
