Kalinago is an ArawWAkan language, closely related to Garifuna. Although the language had fallen out of use through the ages, extensive documentation by the likes of Raymond Breton and Joseph Rat provided enough of a corpus to keep the language from falling into obscurity. The spelling used in this video was adapted from the original script in order to more accurately represent the sounds of the language. Kalinago contains two registers: a female register that can be considered formal, and a male register that can be considered informal. The female speech is characterized by more Arawakan words, whereas the male speech contains higher levels of borrowing from Cariban languages.

If you are interested to see your native language/dialect be featured here.
