Welcome to my channel! This is Andy from I love languages. Let's learn different languages/dialects together.
Standard Moroccan Amazigh is a standardized language in Morocco that combines Tashelhit, Central Atlas Tamazight, and Tarifit features. It has been the official language of Morocco since 2011.
Morocco has three major Amazigh languages: Tarifit, Central Atlas Tamazight, and Tashlhit. They show both similarities and differences.
Tarifit:
Similar to northern Zenati Atlas dialects like Saghruchni and Warayni.
It is closely related to Tachawit in Algeria.
Predominantly a Zenati language, with small minorities in the western Rif speaking a Sanhaji/Zenagi accent.
Central Atlas Tamazight:
For speakers from the middle region, it is easier to understand other dialects like Tarifit, Tasousit, and Taqbaylit.
Southern Atlas Tamazight speakers better understand Tasousit and Taqbaylit.
Eastern Atlas Tamazight speakers find Taqbaylit most comprehensible.
The closest language is Mozabite.
A mix of Sanhaji/Znagi with some Zenati and Masmudi influences.
It varies significantly by region.
Tashlhit (or Tasousit):
It is very similar to Central Atlas Tamazight, Taqbaylit, and Tabrqit.
Classified as a Masmoudi language.
