An Japanese accent and dialect known as Kagoshima dialect, also referred to as Satsugū dialect or Satsuma dialect, is associated with the former Ōsumi and Satsuma provinces now incorporated into the southwestern prefecture of Kagoshima.
The Kagoshima dialect is broadly divided into four categories: Mainland Kagoshima dialect, Koshikijima Islands dialect, Eastern Ōsumi Islands dialect, and Tokara Islands dialect.
