Depending on the method of classification, there are some 120 to 187 languages spoken in the Philippines. The 1987 constitution designates Filipino, a standardized version of Tagalog, as the national language and an official language along with English.
A total of 182 native languages are spoken in the nation according to Ethnologue. All of these languages belong to the Malayo-Polynesian branch of the Austronesian language family. Except for English, Spanish, Chavacano, and varieties of Chinese (Hokkien, Cantonese, and Mandarin).
If you are interested to see your native language/dialect be featured here.
Submit your recordings to [email protected].
Looking forward to hearing from you!
