Standard Goetish (Piau-ciun Ngu-ngei) is the standardized variety of the Ngu language (ISO 639-3: wuu) used in formal contexts and for communication between different dialect areas.
Standard Goetish originated not as a traditional dialect of a specific region but as a written language developed over a process of several decades in which writers tried to write in a way that was understood in the largest area.
The phonology of Standard Goetish deals with current phonology and phonetics as well as with historical developments thereof as well as the geographical variants and the influence of Goetish dialects. Standard Goetish phonology is based on Northern Goetish dialects(北吳音系) , specifically the most conservative dialect—Taicieu (台州), since most Goetish (65%) speak Northern Goetish dialects.
The vocabulary of Standard Goetish comes from all Goetish dialects and absorbed lots of words and phrases from Southern Goetish dialects since they have more conservative and unique ones than Northern Goetish dialects which are heavily influenced by Mandarin.
The grammar of Standard Goetish is based on Taicieu dialect and other Southern Goetish dialects like Uencieu (溫州) and adopts some features from other Goetish dialects for expressing meanings more precisely.
