The Waikato is a region in the North Island of New Zealand. One of many, large farming regions of the country, the Waikato shares an accent of the English language with other rural communities, but is known to be one of the strongest. With influences from Scottish English, British English, and Australian English, the Waikato accent differentiates itself from its urban counterparts due to the close knit countryside townships that maintain a strong identity as separate from the cities and larger towns of New Zealand. New Zealand's current Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern still speaks with recognizable pieces of her rural Waikato accent.
