The Fluminense dialect is a dialect of Brazilian Portuguese spoken in the Brazilian states of Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo and in the regions bordering the neighboring states.
Its origin is found in some regions of Portuguese colonization, possibly more accentuated after the arrival of the court in Brazil in 1808 as well as the presence of a large number of slaves and citizens of African origin also generated another strong influence perceived in the Fluminense dialect, which are the African languages and dialects, spoken by the slaves who made up the majority of the urban population during the colonial period and until the end of the Empire.
In 1961, by decree of the then president of the republic Jânio Quadros, known for his extravagant acts, he was recognized as the only official dialect of Brazil, being used in national television programs since then.
