Quechuan is an indigenous language family spoken by the Quechua peoples, primarily living in the Peruvian Andes. Quechua also served as the primary language of the Inca civilization.
The current Quechua population is an estimated 13 million, with around 8-10 million speakers of the Quechua language. The exact numbers are unknown since the infusion of Spanish culture and peoples.
Bands of Quechua people lived and still live in Peru, Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia, and Argentina.
Ethnologue lists 45 varieties which are then divided into two groups; Central and Peripheral. Due to the non-intelligibility among the two groups, they are all classified as separate languages.
The highest concentration of Quechua can be found in the Cuzco area of Peru, in the high Andes. This area was also once the Incan Empire/civilization's capital.
If you are interested to see your native language/dialect be featured here.
