What is immediacy? In interpersonal communication, it is one of the main ways that we create a feeling of closeness and togetherness with other people. It's a great skill for leaders and followers alike. We are communicating immediacy when we make warm eye contact, ask questions, take an interest, emphasize commonality, sit closer, and self-disclose. When we do those behaviors, we will feel closer with the listener and he or she will feel more connected to us.
