This video is designed to help you better understand the symptoms that your TV is showing and to also help you when gathering information and troubleshooting, when seeking help for your TV repair.
When troubleshooting, be sure to ask the following questions, and take notes as you are observing the symptoms.
We will now go over some common symptoms that TVs can show and what we should look for in greater detail with these symptoms.
Does the TV power on?
Different TV models, can show that they have powered on in different ways. Some TVs will show a standby light, when the TV is not powered on, then after powering on the TV, the standby light is no longer lit up.
On other TVs, the standby light will change colors once the TV is powered on. For example, a TV could show that the LED light is red, when in standby mode, and then once powered on, the light turns to green.
Do you have sound?
Have you tested your source video to be sure it is not the problem?
For example if you are not getting any video on the screen through HDMI one, have you tried a few different sources, maybe a different blu-ray player, cable box, or any other source?
Have you tried running a flashlight test? Here is the link for a tutorial on how to do a flashlight test.
Is the screen always black or do you get a picture for a moment and then the screen goes black?
Does the screen fade to black? Or does it go black immediately?
Can you pull up the menu on your TV screen?
