In this tutorial, you will learn how to pixelate in Photoshop.
The pixilation feature has many applications. It can be a part of your artwork, or it can come handy in hiding specific information on an image. Whichever the case, you can follow the steps below to get started.
Step 1 -- Opening up the Filter Menu
First of all, to get started you would need to go to the filter option at the top panel and then select the "pixelate" option from the list.
The pixelate filter basically clumps up pixels which have the same color value and distorts the image. So you have many different ways in which you can apply this filter, but the most widely used and the best method to pixelate and censor out an image is by using the Mosaic filter over here.
That is because this particular filter clumps up the pixels into blocks. So you can select the Mosaic option for pixilation in Photoshop.
Step 2 -- Applying the Mosaic Filter
Notice that when we increase the cell size, the size of the square boxes increase as well. Furthermore, the square boxes are of the same color and represent the area where the filter is applied on.
For this tutorial, we will choose 92 for the cell size. With that done, you would have successfully done pixilation in Photoshop. Compare the new image with the original one and you would be able to tell the difference very clearly.
It's always a good practice to create a duplicate layer first before applying a filter. Alternatively, you can always press the Ctrl+Z key on the keyboard if you want to revert back to the original image.
Step 3 -- Pixelating a Specific Selection
Now what if you want to pixelate a specific portion of the image? For that, simply make a selection of that area using the selection tool. With that done, you can apply the mosaic filter in the same way as we did before.
This way you can pixelate all the private information before sending over a screenshot to someone, for example.
And these are some of the ways in which you can pixelate in Photoshop.
