In this tutorial, you will learn How to Remove a Chain-Link Fence in Photoshop.
We’re going to approach this with as much simplicity as this task can get. This will include using the Content Aware fill after we make our selection.
To make the selection, what we’ll do is create a new layer and paint over the fence with a brush. We’ll use a hard edge and any color that’ll help it be discernible.
You can use shift while clicking at two different points to create a single straight line between those to points. Other than that, this step just requires some patience with the manual drawing. Make sure you draw over anything that should be removed at the end.
Once done, CMD click on the thumbnail of the layer to select it, then click on the photo layer and go to Edit - Content Aware Fill. At this point you should see a promising result already. To further tweak it, you can change color and rotation adaptation if your image requires it as well as scale and mirror. To better understand these, you can check our tutorial on using Content Aware Fill.
Set Output layer to new layer and hit ok.
Now depending on your image, you might need to do some touching up here and there. You can use either the clone tool or heal tool and go over the parts of the image where the content aware fill didn’t do too well. You may need to merge the layers, but try to always keep a duplicate of your original images, so you have the ability to go back to it.
This may be a little time consuming, but the results are going to be stunning! It’s a drastic change that your image will undergo, thus the amount of time put into it isn’t wasted for nothing.
