In this tutorial, you will learn How to Create Latte Art in Photoshop.
What we are going to do is start off of a nice cup of Italian coffee and add the latte art using various techniques to make it look and feel like a milk foam.
We’ve already opened up our image and have brought in our graphic that’ll be the latte art. Let’s place our image onto the coffee mug already and then go to Filter - Filter Gallery. Find Cutout and tweak it around till it’s looking close to what we have. Press ok. Now change blending mode to Screen. This works since we have a black background. If yoru image doesn’t have a black background, you’re going to need to use the selecting technique of your choice and only keeping the object you need for the art.
Now to give it some “human” touch. Let’s create a duplicate and select the Smudge tool. You may have to hold down on sharpen or blur tool till the tool set is revealed. Choose the Smudge tool. Let’s bring the strength to 100% and select finger painting on. Let’s draw and spread around the art outwards to make it look like it was done with some sort of a barista tool. Go harder on the edges and progressively get more subtle towards the center of the image.
Once we’ve touched up our latte art, let’s put an additional texture touch. Let’s go to Filter - Filter Gallery. Spatter. Tweak the settings to make it look foamy. Press ok.
Let’s add some lighting. Duplicate the layer and and since it’s set to Screen, it’ll automatically lighten things up. We’ll add a layer mask by holding OPT and clicking on the icon. This’ll create a black layer mask. Now paint white over the part of the image where you want the lighting to appear. Remember to keep it subtle.
This shall yield some great looking results!
