Teaching your dog to shake or in other works offer you his paw is not only a fun trick but also a great skill for grooming and husbandry. For example, it can be used for nail trimming or examining the dog’s feet for burs.
This is Epic the Chihuahua puppy’s first lesson at learning to shake. As I describe in the video, I waited a month to train this trick because it’s not a great idea to train this as one of your new puppy or adult dog’s first behaviors. This is because the dog does not yet know the concept of doing the behaviors only on cue yet.
In this video I show many different ways to get your puppy initially thinking to use his paw if you have a dog or puppy who just doesn’t think to use his paw using the normal methods for teaching paw targeting.
