Proactive leash training is training the loose leash walking skills in small achievable steps BEFORE they are needed, rather than problem solving as you go, which can end in a lot of rehearsal of unwanted behavior that can not only be stressful for the person but also for the dog. When dogs pull on leash it is no fun for the owner, but the dog can also be feeling frustrated, stressed and confused. So short fun training sessions in your house and yard will benefit not only the owner but also the dog.

In this video I show how my puppy has such great success walking on a loose leash on her first walk because I did short fun proactive training sessions to teach her the skills of walking on leash while in my own home and yard where there were no distractions and the treats were reinforcing to her.
