Simply put, stem cells are basic 'progenitor cells' that have all the DNA and information to differentiate into any structure and system in the body. They form naturally after fertilization of the ovum and sperm to create these early cell masses that develop into the embryo... but unless they are grown in a lab (very expensive) or your parents saved cells from your birth, there are very limited products on the market.

In this video, I briefly discuss PRP and Amnionic cells which both show promise for wound healing as well as other chronic conditions in my specialty like plantar fasciitis.

What's most exciting is the potential for arthritis, both in the office and during surgical procedures like the ankle arthroscopic procedures I perform. We take a tissue that normally does not regenerate like cartilage and give the joint cells and growth factors to enhance healing and possibly help regenerate damaged tissue.
