A corn is a type of callous with a hard core in the center that can occur on top, between or the tip of the toes. Corns are caused by excessive pressure or friction from prominent bone structures.
Not only can the thick and discolored portion of the corn be removed, but the surgery removes the offending portion of the bone (or bone spur) to prevent the corn from returning.
Certain varieties can be removed surgically in the office. Others require more equipment and are performed in an out patient surgery center. Costs are dependent upon the healthcare plan, but all of the surgeries for painful corns are covered by insurance.
