This patient had a painful neuroma and second hammer toe surgery performed. Neuroma pain has a 25-50% recovery with cortisone injections, alcohol sclerosing agents and custom molded orthotics to take the pressure off of the ball of the foot. If all treatment fails, an interspace release and/or complete removal of the enlarged nerve junction or 'neuroma' is performed easily in an out patient surgery setting.
