Eruptive xanthomatosis is a skin condition characterized by the development of small, reddish-yellow bumps on the skin, typically on the buttocks, backs of the legs, and arms. These bumps are caused by the accumulation of fat deposits in the skin and may be itchy or painful. Eruptive xanthomatosis is often associated with an underlying medical condition, such as diabetes, hyperlipidemia (elevated levels of cholesterol or triglycerides in the blood), or certain medications.

The exact cause of eruptive xanthomatosis is not fully understood, but it is thought to be related to abnormal lipid metabolism in the body. People with diabetes and poorly controlled hyperlipidemia are at increased risk of developing the condition.

Diagnosis of eruptive xanthomatosis is typically based on a physical examination and a review of the patient's medical history. Blood tests may be ordered to evaluate cholesterol and triglyceride levels, as well as other markers of lipid metabolism.

Treatment of eruptive xanthomatosis typically involves managing the underlying medical condition that is causing the skin bumps to develop. This may include lifestyle changes such as improving diet and increasing exercise, as well as medications to control cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Topical or oral medications may also be prescribed to alleviate symptoms such as itching or pain.

In most cases, the skin bumps associated with eruptive xanthomatosis will resolve with appropriate treatment of the underlying condition. However, it may take several weeks or months for the bumps to completely disappear.
