To perform calf raises single leg on a step:

1. Stand on a step or something sturdy while holding on for balance. Place the ball of one foot on the edge of the step and let the other foot hang off. Try to keep your body in an upright position. Rise up on the ball of your foot as high as you can.
2. Then slowly come back down, dropping your heel below the step as far as you comfortably can without slipping off.
