Shoulder pain with exercise can be a common occurrence.

In many instances, shoulder pain is caused by muscle imbalances (too much strength in the deltoid and not enough strength in the rotator cuff).

When we work pressing exercises too often (bench press, overhead press, etc) our anterior deltoid (front of the shoulder) becomes stronger and starts to dominate a lot of exercises. This pulls the humerus (shoulder bone) out of place and can cause pain.

HOW TO FIX SHOULDER PAIN WITH EXERCISE

The most effective way to alleviate this pain is to stretch through the front of the chest and shoulders to create more space in this area and then train and strengthen your rotator cuff.

The combination of these two efforts is an effective means of helping to alleviate pain in your shoulder.

WHAT IS THE ROTATOR CUFF?

The rotator cuff is four muscles whose primary purpose is to stabilize the shoulder in its joint.

The truth is, we don’t exercise it directly as often as we should and the result is an imbalance in our shoulder muscles. The deltoids become too powerful and the rotator cuff isn’t strong enough to stabilize it in place.
