WHAT IS UPPER BACK PAIN?
The area below your neck and between your shoulder blades is known as your “thoracic spine” or “upper back”. Pain in this area is most-often due to alignment/movement of the thoracic vertebrae or dysfunction in the muscles (tightness or weakness) of the upper back.
WHY DO I GET UPPER BACK PAIN?
The pain in your upper back can come from your spine (vertebrae), ribs, joints (spaces between your vertebrae), and muscles. The most-common cause that I personally treat for pain in this area is poor posture and the strain it places on your muscles and spine.
HOW TO FIX UPPER BACK PAIN
The right stretches and exercises can help to relieve and eliminate upper back pain… and that’s exactly what I’m sharing in this video!
First of all, your thoracic spine should be very mobile. In fact it’s one of the most-mobile sections in your spine. It should move forward and back, side to side, and rotate freely. One of the best ways to decrease pain in your upper back is to improve your motion in each of these directions.
Second, your upper back should also be very strong and stable to act as support for your neck and a foundation for movement in your arms. I’ll show you some great exercises to work on your postural muscles and the muscles between your shoulder blades to improve strength and function and decrease your pain.
