WHAT CAUSES DANDRUFF:
Dandruff is not caused by poor hygiene, although it may be more obvious if you do not wash your hair regularly. Stress and cold weather may also make dandruff worse. For more information on causes and symptoms please visit: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/dandruff/

DANDRUFF HOME REMEDIES:
Tip 1: Stay away from scalp oils - We all know that someone who tells you your scalps is just dry and put oil on it.

This is probably one of the worst things you can do with dandruff, why? Well the fungus on the scalps loves natural oils, so all this is going to mean is more fungus, more irritation and more dandruff.

Tip 2: Sunlight can help with dandruff - If there’s one thing the fungus on your head doesn't like, it's sunlight. So spend a little more time out in the sun to fight the dandruff.

Please do make sure you're protecting any exposed skin with SPF 30 or higher sunscreen.

Tip 3 Hydration and balanced diet - Last lifestyle tip and its all about keeping skin cells healthy which will health with dandruff. So make sure you’re drinking 6-8 glasses of water a day (coffee, tea does contribute) and having a nice healthy balanced diet with plenty of coloured fruit, vegetable and nuts which are nice and high zinc and b vitamins.

Eat foods high in zinc, B vitamins and Omega 3,
Like nuts, leafy greens, salmon, meat, chicken and dairy

BEST ANTI DANDRUFF SHAMPOO:
Ok so that lifestyle tips done now lets move onto the best medicated shampoos, before we begin remember you need to give these at least a month so be patient and the results will come, trust me. Speak healthcare professional and always read information leaflet , safe and suitable.

Anti Dandruff shampoo 1: Ketoconazole - This is my go to that I prescribe for most patients with normal dandruff symptoms, it’s very effective at killing the fungus and can be bought over the counter.

One really important thing about using any of the medicated shampoos we discuss in the video follow the directions but make sure rub in nicely and leave on for at least 5 minutes before washing off otherwise they aren't going to work as well.

Anti Dandruff shampoo 2: Selenium containing shampoos these are also antifungal, good for normal dandruff symptoms like Ketoconazole.

Anti Dandruff shampoo 3: Zinc containing shampoos that are also antifungal and have some antibacterial properties so they can also help with dandruff.

Anti Dandruff shampoo 4: Coal tar shampoos are really good when reducing skin cell turnover, some dandruff can be caused by this especially if you have psoriasis, so they have no antifungal properties. Please remember though coal tar can discolour fair hair and it can be very strong smelling.

Anti Dandruff shampoo 5: Salicylic acid containing shampoos have no antifungal properties but can help gently peel away the top layer of skin to help improve dandruff.

Top Medicated Shampoo Tip: You may find the effects of these shampoos to wear off with time, so important to alternate with different normal shampoos to prevent from happening.
