WHAT IS EYESIGHT:
So, why should we try to improve our eyesight? Well, if you are lucky enough to be born with clear vision it is something we can often take for granted, especially when we’re young. But as we get older, our eyesight slowly declines, and statistics show that almost all of us need glasses by the time we’re 65.
Now, there’s lots of reasons why our eyesight deteriorates, some of it can be out of our control such as ageing, genetics and health conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration. But there’s also lots of reasons that are within our control from the amount of UV light we’re exposed to, to what type of diet and lifestyle we have that speed up eye damage.
On top of this, studies have shown some of us can be at increased risk, and this includes those over the age 60, those with learning disabilities, those who are diabetic, and those who come from certain ethnic backgrounds such as south Asian and African-Caribbean.
So, now you know how important it is to look after your eyes, let’s look into the best ways we can improve our eyesight and debunk which theories don’t work in this weeks video.

WHEN TO SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION:
Now, along with following these tips, to keep your eyesight as healthy as possible, you want to ensure you have regular eye tests by your optician, ideally every 2 years, as well as whenever you notice a change or worsening in your vision.
But on top of these regular checks, you should also speak to your doctor or your optician if you ever feel like there is something lodged in your eye, get any green or yellow discharge from the eye, see straight lines as wavy, find bright lights dazzling, or have cloudy vision, as these can be signs of an underlying condition that should be checked out. But I’ll leave more information on these in the description below.
You should also speak to your doctor or optician straight away if you ever experience any severe pain in your eye, have sensitivity to bright lights, or imagine flashing lights after an eye injury, as these can be signs of serious conditions that should be investigated urgently.
And as always, even if you don’t have any of these symptoms but know within yourself something is not right, speak to your healthcare professional.
