Let me show you what Hallux Rigidus (big toe stiffness) looks like and how I treat it with a custom orthotic. Hallux rigidus can be very painful and alter your walking pattern. If you are not planning on having surgery, I suggest trying a carbon plate under an insole, stretching your calves and possibly trying a rocker bottom shoe. This is a mechanical issue so just a soft insole alone may not do it for you.
