The Hoffa's Test for Infrapatellar Fat Pad Syndrome is used to help tease out one of the sources of anterior knee pain. Everyone has an infrapatellar fat pad and when inflamed and swollen it can become pinched between the femur and tibia anteriorly. To perforn the Hoffa's Test, A thumb and index finger on each side of the patella tendon while extending the patient's knee (especially the last 10 degrees) can be painful if the infrapatellar fat pad is inflamed. Be sure to assess the opposite side to compare. Enjoy!
